Research Areas

Main research areas of the academic staff at the Laboratory of Cellular Neurobiology (NK)

Prof. dr. hab. Elżbieta Pyza

The physiology of the nervous system in insects and mammals. The physiology of the visual system in Diptera.
Biological rhythms (circadian and circadian-like) in the behaviour and nervous system of insects and mammals.
The mechanism of the biological clock – the circadian clock. Synaptic and neuronal plasticity, including circadian plasticity of the brain in Drosophila melanogaster and mice. Interactions between the nervous and immune systems.
The role of glial cells in neuronal plasticity. The mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases and neuroprotection.
Main research models: Drosophila melanogaster, mice, mainly transgenic strains and mutants.
Methods: microscopy (confocal and transmission electron), gene and protein expression studies (PCR, Western blot), genome and proteome analysis.

Dr hab. Milena Damulewicz
